“Jess, roll up your window and make sure that your door is locked. Look straight ahead and don't look at anyone on the streets.”

“Why Dad, are we being followed or something?”

“Just do as I say, we're driving through a bad neighborhood.”

“But Dad, this is California, everyone is so nice here, how bad can it be?”

“This is Watts, and here if the whites go into the blacks neighborhood there could be lots of trouble, so just look straight ahead, we'll be out of here soon.”


“Seriously, that sounds ridiculous but I'll do as you ask Dad.”
